Golf Handicap Certificate
Wise wisdom of WHO,

A group of us are going to Vilamoura, Portugal end of July on a golf jolly. I've been looking at some of the courses and they all ask for a handicap certificate (which none of us have)

Anyone been and know whether they actually bother with this or just as long as you avoid slow-play and adhere to etiquette etc we should be okay.

Any recommendations on which courses to play and good bars/restaurants for the evening are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

When I first started to play golf in Portugal over 30 years ago Vilamoura (Original old course) and Penina used to ask you to produce your certificate but never had to in the last 20 years

Cut and pasting the logo of your local golf club onto paper to make it look like official headed paper and then creating a handicap certificate from that is totally illegal and should never be done!!!!!!

Only really get asked if playing in APG federation Competitions over here, if a case of just turning up for a game then never been asked to produce any documents!

I went on a golf holiday to turkey a couple of years ago with a load of fellas. we played the montgomerie max on one of the days and two of our slowest players were out together. the cunts were warned numerous times to speed up but failed to heed the warnings and were finally told to get off the course. not before one of the lads threatened to batter one of the staff who escorted them off the course

the rest of us still finished our round :.)

I've played all those courses with no handicap cirtificate.
So long as you are polite, look the part, have the right equipment and lie about your golf membership they'll happily take your money. Say you have a 15 handicap!
You look and act like a cunt and you'll have no chance.

cabs are cheap in portugal - 20 minute trip is usually around 20 euros with local cabs
time and a half if you book the T cars executive service around quinta but they have six seaters if there's a few of you

Don't mind golf as I don't have anything to do with it. Never understood the attraction, but each to their own.

What I cannot (CANNOT) abide though are the golf bores who come up to you on a Monday morning in the office and stand by your desk and, when you ask them if they had a good weekend (just to make conversation), tell you how they 'shot a 30' or 'birdied an albatross up the arse with a 3 iron' or some other ridiculous statement that they expect you to find impressive.

And (AND) the killer one is, after they've bored you with the details (like you care), they stand there by the side of your desk and adjust their feet before taking an imaginary swing on their imaginary golf club and imagine it sailing onto the green for a hole in one. The cunts.

I have had several rounds of golf spoilt, whilst abroad, by groups of people who not only cannot play but also have no idea of course etiquette.

Played val de lobo last September and like most have said if its all pre booked in the uk they aren't bothered about handicaps just filling up tee times and buggies mate

Re: Golf Handicap Certificate
Never been asked for a certificate.

Buggies usually about €30-35 but you should be able to book your rounds including buggies.

It's convenient that your handicap is obviously your arms...

People may think I'm shit for shooting on average 105, but I'm getting better value for money than all of the other cunts!

I go every year and play various courses, including Val de Lobo Ocean and Royal and have never been asked for a certificate. At Val de Lobo there are marshalls who keep the speed of play up and may occasionally come and give you the hurry up if the course is busy, but you won't need a handicap certificate

The marina is always nice of an evening for dinner and drinks - for the more lively there is plenty of other entertainment to be found..

Re: Golf Handicap Certificate
that will be no problem at all iron - they just want your green fees!
the old course at vilamoura is a lovely course - the newer ones round there aren't all that in my book
you are better off jumping in a 20 minute cab and playing at quinta do lago north/south courses which are great
vilamoura harbour is always lively and has lots of bars - luis figo owns one there
it's pretty average for eating round there though - pop in a cab again to the nearby town of almancil where a place called senor frangoes does great piri-piri chicken
around quinta there's a steak place called parilla natural which is very good

Re: Golf Handicap Certificate
Played loads of courses albeit in Uk/Ireland that say you need to be x handicap to play and have not once been asked to prove it.
